Not more than a two hour drive (or 168km) from Cape Town lies the splendid and fantastic world of the Breede River Valley. At 220m above sea level and rainfall in excess of 2000mm per annum, a more perfect place for producing elegant wines, one cannot imagine. While visiting this, the highest wine and fruit producing area in the Western Cape, you will find yourself in awe as you are surrounded by flora and fauna not seen elsewhere in the world.

Stretching from Gouda to McGregor, Montagu to Karoo, the area gives you multitudes of options in terms of attractions. In Robertson you will find accommodation aplenty. The town also boasts the ´fruit route´, nature reserves, holiday resort on the river, racehorse stud farms, hiking trails, and of course the wine estates that make it one of the leading wine producing areas in South Africa.

In Montagu, you are guarenteed an experience for the record books. Visit the museums, the art galleries, view the architecture, go rock climbing, hiking, biking or off the tracks and dont miss a visit to the world famous healing hot mineral springs, found at Avalon Springs Resort in Montagu. Varietals that really stand out in this region include Muscadel and other fortified wines, Chardonnay, Colombard and Merlot.

The largest town in the area, Worcester, is well known for its impressive cultural history. It is the meeting place of many travellers between Cape Town, Johannesburg and PE. The people are friendly and welcoming and the service is superb. From here, reaching any other town in the region is not more than a 20 to 40 minute drive through some of the most amazing scenery you can fathom. Worcester´s attractions include the Brandy route, and it has 24 co-operative wine cellars as well as a few smaller boutique cellars, with many surprises waiting to be discovered.
