[shar-duh-NAY] believed to have originated from the Burgundy wine region in the east of France is now grown in every wine producing region in the world, it is even more widely planted than Cabernet Sauvignon and is now one of the most widely recognized varietals in the world. Used in the production of many sparkling wines including Champange it can also be found unoaked or aged in French or American barrels.
