Gewurztraminer
[ga-VurtS-trah- Mee- ner] Growing well in cooler climates, gewürztraminer is a fussy vine, and easily susceptible to disease. The vines require dry warm summers and an experienced, loving and vigilant wine maker to successfully create a wine of high quality. The grapes colour ranges from pink to red skin colours, making it definable as a white wine grape. With a naturally high sugar content the wines produced from this varietal are often used to create off-dry wines, however styles can range from sweet to dry. When enjoying this wine the flavours and aromas one can expect to experience include spice, apricot, rose, pear, mineral and citrus and with dryer variations one may also notice floral notes and hints of passion fruit.
