Malbec
[ Mahl-bek] originating from the Bordeaux region in France, this red wine grape is considered one of the 6 ‘Bordeaux blend’ varietals. Prone to affliction of several viticulturist diseases, careful management of the vines is required for the vine to be successfully grown. Usually used for blending, the wines characteristics fall somewhere between that of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is usually medium to full bodied and originally was used to add colour and fruit to Bordeaux blends of France. With often robust, tannins this wine exhibits earthy and woody tones, while aromas and flavours include plums, jam and blackberries. These factors lend to Malbec’s versatility and intensity.
