Nebbiolo
[Nay-By-oh-Low] is a red wine varietal originating from Italy. Lightly in colouration the wines produced from this varietal can be tannic when young with aromas of tar and roses. As it ages Nebbiolo starts to show a more complex set of flavours, ranging from herbs , to cherries, tobacco and prunes, it also often displays hints of tar and licorice. The wines capacity to age for anywhere from 10 to 30 years has led to it being highly valued and prized by collectors. Despite this reputationthough, the vines sensitivity and has lead to Nebbiolo being planted sparsely, by only the brave and well experienced vineyardist’s and winemaker. It is a very sensitive vine and prefers cooler climates as it ripens very late in the season.
