Petit Verdot

[Peh-tee-Vehr-doe] is a red wine grape and is one of the 6 traditional and official varietals used in the production of Bordeaux blends. A temperamental vine, its grapes are often under developed if the season is short. Usually used in blends for its often spicy, floral and herbal tones, it is rarely bottled as a single varietal. In South Africa, there are a number of stunning examples of this varietal bottled as a single varietal due to the often optimal conditions found in the area in comparison to old world countries.
