Viognier

[vee-Yohn-yay] is a white wine grape varietal. Its origins are unknown but is believed to have originated in Dalmatia and is an ancient grape. Although once grown commonly almost became extinct early in the 1900’s due to its low yields and unpredictable yield. It also prefers growing in warmer environments and has a long growing season. The main attraction to Viognier is its powerful, complex and rich aromas of apricots, peaches and floral notes. It is usually produced in a dry style and even with little to no wood aged Viognier can be as full bodied as an oaked Chardonnay.
